Labor candidate for Cockburn, David Scaife, announced, while attending the centre, a $150,000 funding commitment to Yangebup Family Centre for a new outdoor Nature Play space, bathroom renovation and smart signage.
David is pictured above with committee member Kelly Hutton and her daughter who attend many programs and activities at the centre.
Under a re-elected McGowan Labor Government, the community-run not-for-profit Centre will finally be able to create a long-awaited new outdoor play space to cater for hundreds of children who participate in a range of programs each week.
The much-needed bathroom renovation will mean users and volunteers will have a refreshed and welcoming facility within the high-traffic Centre.
Smart Signage outside the Centre on Dunraven Drive will allow the greatest community exposure for the Centre’s programs.
The Centre is a busy cultural hub where children, families, individuals and seniors can embrace diversity and belonging through playgroup, occasional care and pre-kindy programs, as well as a range of many community initiatives and social programs.
Mr Scaife has been working closely with the Yangebup Family Centre to better understand the needs of local families and other Centre users. Mr Scaife said “Yangebup Family Centre makes our community stronger and more inclusive. That’s why I’m supporting a project that will benefit many local families."
The project is expected to begin in the second half of 2021.
Mr Scaife has also committed $100,000 for a new playground at Minori Gardens, Yangebup and $50,000 for a Nature Play Space at Atwell Reserve.
